TDA begins licensing, regulating structural pest control
posted by admin in Pest ControlAgriculture Commissioner Todd Staples is committed to first-rate customer satisfaction and consumer protection as the Structural Pest Control Service begins operations at the Texas Department of Agriculture. During the 80th legislative session, House Bill 2458 abolished the former Structural Pest Control Board and moved the functions of licensing and regulating structural pest control to TDA. Structural pest control is defined as pesticide applications in and around structures, such as homes, schools and buildings.
Licenses issued under the Structural Pest Control Board will retain their expiration date and license number. While SPCS licenses are now issued by TDA, structural licensees must continue to comply with the requirements of the Occupations Code and the Structural Pest Control Regulations.
Although structural applicators will now be licensed under TDA, they may not perform agricultural applications unless they have an agriculture pesticide applicator license under the proper TDA category. Structural applicators who wish to perform lawn and ornamental insect and weed control must still be licensed in either the structural lawn and ornamental, and weed categories or hold the agriculture applicator license with the 3A category and a nursery floral certificate.
