The Democratic National Convention begins today in Denver and this year, the gathering will also serve as a showcase for new leaders of the party’s statewide organization in Missouri and Illinois.

by political correspondents Jo Mannies and Kevin McDermott,  we learn that while many of each state’s old-guard Democratic powerhouses will fade, the next generation of leaders will “claim the spotlight.”

Among that new generation is U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan and his sister, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, all from Missouri, and from Illinois, U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Lisa Madigan, Dan Haynes and state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

Will the states’ new leaders return to their respective home bases  with a new energy to revitalize the political parties? Or will it be more of the same rhetoric we’ve been accustomed to hearing?
