Fire guts cousins’ home
posted by admin in Home Phone ServiceTwo cousins were without shelter last night after fire razed their home and destroyed a tractor which was parked in the Home Phone Service garage.
Gregory Duncan, a neighbour, said he saw sparks coming from an electricity pole and within minutes the house next door was on fire. Duncan said he tried using his garden hose to out the blaze but failed. Nathan Jerome, who was asleep inside the house at Rivulet Road, Indian Trail, Couva, said he felt heat coming from above.
“I was asleep and I started feeling this heat coming from the roof, when I ran out the house was on fire,” he said.
His cousin, Theophulus Dixon, a painter, was at work when he heard the news. “My cousin called and said the house was on fire. When I got there the fire officers did not reach yet. They took more than 40 minutes to Home Phone Service come and the station is about three miles away,” he said.
The fire broke out around 8 a.m.
Dixon said when the fire fighters arrived it was too late - the house was already destroyed.
“I don’t know where we would go. We have nothing, everything was lost in the fire. We will have to go by some relatives or Home Phone Service something,” he said.
The five-bedroom house was valued at $500,000 and the tractor at $40,000.
