One Cherokee County woman has nearly $3,000 worth of woe and are looking for nine people they believe are part of an organized identity theft ring.

The Cherokee County sheriff’s office released of the people Monday and are asking anyone with information to call .

The were found on drivers licenses in a College Park home after police there served a search warrant.

The names on the drivers licenses belong to identity theft victims, some of whom live in College Park.

But the don’t match the victims’ names, and believe they are the people who have been stealing identities - and money - throughout the metro area, said Sgt. Jay Baker, a for the Cherokee County sheriff’s office.

Baker said the Cherokee investigation began in September, when Michele Smith of Canton discovered $1,450.79 was missing from her SunTrust checking account. Someone had put her account number on a fake check to buy merchandise at . Other fake checks were cashed at Wal-Mart, for $684.73, and Target, for $723.73.

A driver’s license with Smith’s name on it was found by at the home in College Park, Baker said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cherokee at 770-928-0239.

Baker had these suggestions for keeping your information safe:

> Shred all financial documents that contain personal information.

> Pay attention to your billing cycles and review your bank statements.

> Keep your personal information in a safe place.

> Be wary of those around you when typing your PIN numbers in public areas.
