Do-it-yourself emporiums making themselves at home
posted by admin in Home DepotThe national housing market is in turmoil, but that hasn’t stopped large home improvement retailers from moving into the Bay Area.
Lowes is the latest to add yet another mammoth store, this one in South San Francisco, less than five miles from its San Bruno store and within 12 miles of three competing Home Depots.
The 117,000-square-foot Lowes with a 31,600-square-foot garden center is scheduled to open on Dubuque Avenue in the first quarter of 2008. The store will employ up to 175 full- and part-time workers and is forecast to contribute $400,000 in sales tax revenue to South San Francisco.
While theres an undeniable cluster of Lowes and Home Depots concentrated around San Franciscos southern border, Lowes got a reprieve from its biggest threat: a 101,000-square-foot, fully-entitled Home Depot that was ready to break ground at 900 Dubuque Ave., just one block away.
