A year after kitchen is ordered, Home Depot delivers $5,000
posted by admin in Home DepotQ. Just before Christmas, 2006, I bought kitchen cabinetry and countertops from Home Depot and paid $10,001.47, installation included.
Boxes of cabinetry arrived in January 2007, and installation began in February.
The cabinetry quality was dreadful, nothing like that that was on display in the store; out of 22 doors, 17 had deep gouges, pitting, scratches, cracks and poor staining.
The installer said he had to install them but would request replacements.
The replacements arrived in May. They were no better; five were already damaged.
A third set arrived in July; they also were pitted, gouged, scratched and had poor staining.
I kept the best doors, but the installer incorrectly fitted the handles, which meant yet another set had to be ordered.
In the meantime, the countertops were installed, but they had been incorrectly measured, leaving a gap behind the stove.
Promises and appointments were made to correct it, but all were broken.
In mid August, two of the store managers visited my home and acknowledged that the situation was unacceptable. More promises about prompt resolutions were made but not kept.
In mid September, the fourth set of doors was delivered by one of the managers. The first door out of the boxes had a crack in it.
The manager said he would be back to have one more go; I took another day off work — and he never showed.
Eventually, Home Depot’s head office in Atlanta offered to take all the cabinetry out or give me a 50 percent refund to leave the kitchen as is so I could have new doors custom-made. The problem is that I can’t get Home Depot to clarify the terms so I can make a decision.
