is closing three call centers next month under a continuing move to shift responsibilities to the ’s warehouse .

The Atlanta-based retailer confirmed Tuesday it plans to lay off about 950 employees, including 750 at a large center in Tampa and 200 at smaller sites in Chicago and Dallas. The employees recently received notice that the centers will shut down Jan. 28, said Ron DeFeo.

The closings mark another round of cutbacks involving the back-office operations of ’s installation services. These three centers handled quotes and follow-up calls for who go into and order window, door and flooring installations, DeFeo said.

The call centers were handling jobs that were already generated at the store level, DeFeo said. As we continue to work toward improving our customer experience, we thought it was important to restore that associate-customer contact. This gives the customer that one local contact for installation purchases.

DeFeo said the downturn in the , which has cut into sales and profit at and other retailers, was not a major culprit in the closings.
