Shock death of window cleaner
posted by admin in home cleaning serviceA POPULAR Sheffield window cleaner who was “the life and soul of the party” died of a massive heart attack just days before Christmas.
Dennis Beatson, aged 61, died in the early hours of December 22 despite gallant efforts by his son, heart technician Paul, and ambulance staff to revive the grandad-of-four.
His death has come as a real shock to the family as Dennis, of Barlow Road in Stannington, was a fitness fanatic who trained three times a week.
But despite their grief, the family are desperate to track down all Dennis’ customers so they can help them arrange a new window cleaner.
“My dad was a self-employed window cleaner in Walkley for over 30 years,” said Paul, 42, who lives in Southampton but was visiting his parents in Sheffield for Christmas.
“In that time he has developed a wonderful relationship with his customers, to the extent he still only charged 50p to do his elderly customers’ windows.
“For some time I have been trying to get him to write down his round in case something happened to him but he would always say ‘I know who my customers are and they know me. I’ve got plenty of time to write things down’.
“Sadly this is no longer the case and he didn’t write anything down.”
Dennis, a former player for Lincolnshire’s Boston FC, was born and bred in Sheffield and was a steelworker before starting his window cleaning business.
He and wife Pat, 61, had been married for 41 years and had two children, Paul and his sister Angela Miller, 38, who lives in Oughtibridge.
“Dennis’ round included at least 10 streets including most of the shops and commercial properties on South Road,” said Pat.
“It started around the Bellhagg Road area and stretched up to Walkley Street but I don’t know the house numbers and we would hate someone to go without and think they had been forgotten.”
A friend of the Beatson family, also a window cleaner, has agreed to take on as much of the round as possible but until the family have a definitive list of properties he can’t begin the long task of knocking on doors.
“Dennis was very popular - a real man’s man,” said Pat.
” He was always the life and soul of the party.”
Paul has set up a dedicated email address for Dennis’ customers to get in touch - dennisbeatson@btinternet.com - or they can call Paul on 02380 785992 or 07795 253612 and leave a message.
