The program is one part of a plan Mayor unveiled Wednesday to address a crisis affecting many Philadelphia homeowners.

The city has already taken steps to address the problem, including delaying the sheriff’ for April and May to give the time to potentially keep people in their homes.

“It will give people an opportunity to be heard,” M. said of the program. “And, give them the opportunity to stay in their homes or gracefully exit.”

As part of the city’s protection program, Nutter also launched a to make people aware of a housing hotline. About 8,500 filings are expected in Philadelphia this year, the mayor said.
